URDU CORRESPONDENCE COURSE

About the Course
Established in 1970, the Urdu Correspondence Course aims to promote the learning of Urdu through an accessible and learner-oriented approach.
The programme is offered through Hindi and English, making it suitable for beginners as well as learners with a basic understanding of either language.

Duration
The course is divided into three stages, each typically requiring three to four months:
- Minimum duration: 1 year

Eligibility
Applicants should have a basic understanding of either Hindi or English, as these are the media of instruction.
Course Structure
Stage I
This stage introduces learners to the Urdu script and foundational language skills.
Learners will:
- Learn the Urdu script
- Develop basic reading skills
- Practise writing through guided exercises
Stage II
This stage focuses on comprehension and expression through simple prose and poetry.
Learners will:
- Read and understand simple texts
- Develop basic writing and composition skills
- Improve vocabulary and language use
Stage III
This stage develops proficiency through exposure to classical and modern Urdu texts.
Learners will:
- Engage with more advanced reading material
- Develop comprehension and interpretative skills
- Strengthen written expression

Instructional Material
Study material prepared by the University is provided to learners. The material is designed for self-study and follows a structured progression across all stages.
Assessment and Evaluation
Learners are required to complete assignments in accordance with the guidelines provided:
- Continuous assessment is conducted through assignments
- Final evaluation takes place upon completion of all stages
- Successful learners are awarded a certificate
Admission Process
Admissions are open throughout the year.
Applicants are required to:
- Submit a duly completed application form
- Provide a recent passport-sized photograph
- Pay the prescribed fee
Fee Structure

- USD 20 (SAARC countries)
- USD 50 (Other countries)
Mode of Payment:
Applicants are required to send a Postal Order or Bank Draft for the prescribed amount in favour of ‘Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi’ , payable at New Delhi, along with the completed application form.
Important Guidelines
- Learners must quote their admission number in all correspondence
- Progress is monitored throughout the course
- Re-admission, where required, will be treated as a fresh admission
- Replacement of study material may be subject to additional charges
