Overview

The B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values essential for professional social work practice. It emphasizes understanding social issues, human behavior, and community development while fostering empathy, ethical responsibility, and critical thinking. Students learn to address social problems, promote social justice, and empower individuals and communities through fieldwork, research, and policy analysis. Graduates are prepared for careers in NGOs, healthcare, education, welfare organizations, and government sectors, or may pursue advanced studies such as an M.A. in Social Work (MSW) for specialized roles in social welfare and advocacy.

Throughout the program, students explore a range of subjects such as sociology, psychology, economics, political science, social welfare administration, and human rights. The curriculum also covers specialized areas like community organization, social legislation, social research methods, and counseling techniques. These courses help students analyze social issues such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, gender discrimination, and child welfare from both a micro and macro perspective.

A distinctive feature of the B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work program is its emphasis on fieldwork training. Students are placed in various community settings, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), hospitals, schools, welfare agencies, and social service institutions to gain hands-on experience. This practical exposure enables them to apply classroom knowledge in real-life situations and develop essential professional skills such as communication, empathy, leadership, and problem-solving.
